Coinciding with the #WorldWildlifeDay Celebration today, 3 March 2021, DENR Caraga top officials, Regional Executive Director Nonito M. Tamayo and Asst. Regional Director for Technical Services Atty. Claudio A. Nistal, Jr., turned over to the DENR-designated rescue center, an Indo-Pacific Crocodile (๐˜พ๐™ง๐™ค๐™˜๐™ค๐™™๐™ฎ๐™ก๐™ช๐™จ ๐™ฅ๐™ค๐™ง๐™ค๐™จ๐™ช๐™จ) retrieved from a rescuer in one of the coastal towns in the region.

The J.K. Mercado & Sons Agricultural Enterprises Incorporated, Pag-asa Farms Wildlife Rescue Center represented by Mr. Pedro G. Mendoza, Jr., Crocodile Farm Supervisor, accepted the responsibility to temporarily take custody of the crocodile as he signed the Certificate of Wildlife Custodianship in a simple ceremony held at DENR Caraga Regional Office, Ambago, Butuan City.

The crocodile, measuring 6.1ft. in length, is a male. Prior to the turn-over, DENR Caraga Conservation and Development Division (CDD) technical staff Philip Baltazar and Jane Diaz, under the directives of CDD Chief Nilda G. Ebron, conducted an assessment of the wild fauna and found it to be in good condition.

After the turn-over, the reptile, given the tag number 0-4-68, was immediately brought to the rescue center at Purok 7, Brgy. Pag-asa, Kapalong, Davao del Norte.

Being its custodian, the rescue center is responsible for the appropriate veterinary care, implement health and feeding program, conduct regular inspection and monitoring, and execute other appropriate measures towards ensuring the well-being and security of the crocodile.

March 3, 2021 is being celebrated as the #WorldWildlifeDay with the theme "Forest and Livelihoods: Sustaining People and Planet" which highlights the links between our planetโ€™s forest and woodlands as well as its manifold benefits to humanity.#
