DENR Caraga Regional Executive Director Nonito M. Tamayo led the Groundbreaking
Ceremony for the establishment of Butuan West Environment and Natural Resources (ENR)
Monitoring, Information, and Assistance Center in Brgy. Masao, Butuan City on May 17,
2021.

The groundbreaking marked the start of DENR Caraga’s intensified efforts to bring its
services closer to the communities amid the pandemic.

Last April 26, 2021, the Butuan West Monitoring Station was accidentally burned to ashes
when a fire occurred in the area. Instead of building a new station using confiscated forest
products, it will be one of the first DENR Assistance Centers to use a container van as an
office.

The Information and Assistance Center aims to be an extension/satellite office of the DENR
in providing the basic services of the department; serve as a monitoring station on DENR
concerns; and serve as temporary quarters for field personnel doing foot patrol, inventory,
validation, and survey work. The agency will ensure that personnel assigned in the center are
knowledgeable of all the plans and programs of the department so that clients/customers
coming to the station will know beforehand all the requirements in any transaction before
going to the CENR Office.

Present in the ceremony were Assistant Regional Director for Technical Services Atty.
Claudio A. Nistal Jr., PENR Officer of Agusan del Norte Achilles Anthony C. Ebron; CENR
Officer of Nasipit Joseph Leo E. Oconer; Enforcement Division Chief Modesto U. Lagumbay
Jr; Brgy. Kagawad Evangeline Ighot; and selected personnel from CENRO Nasipit and the
Regional Office.##
