The DENR Caraga Region will be hosting a Sportsfest in celebration of the Environment Month 2016 on June 20-22, 2016 to be held in different locations in Butuan City.
The sports activity aims to strengthen the camaraderie of the employees and promote healthy living. The sports included in this event are basketball, volleyball, cheerdance, bowling, lawn tennis, table tennis, badminton, dart, and chess.
“Let us utilize this time of the year to promote unity and friendly competition. I am encouraging everyone to participate in all the activities lined-up for the Sportsfest. This will surely help us to be active when we get back to our offices to accomplish our targets,” Regional Director Nonito M. Tamayo said.
The teams who will be competing are as follows: Regional Office (Team Punta Diwata); PENRO Agusan Del Norte (Team Mayapay); PENRO Agusan Del Sur (Team Agusan Marsh); PENRO Surigao Del Norte (Team Cloud 9); PENRO Surigao Del Sur (Team Enchanted River); PENRO Dinagat Islands (Team Lake Bababu); Environmental Management Bureau (Team Balangay); Mines and Geosciences Bureau (Team Red Mountain); and Ecosystems Research and Development Bureau (Team Kitanglad).
The venues set for the events are: Cheer and Dance Competition (Provincial Capitol); Basketball (Luz Village); Lawn Tennis (Doongan Covered Court); Volleyball (Provincial Capitol); Dart (Provincial Capitol); Table Tennis (Provincial Capitol); Bowling (Timberlanes); Badminton (Timberlines); and Chess (Provincial Capitol).

Butuan City- The Department of Environment and Natural Resources Caraga has recognized the contributions of several environmental partners in celebration of the 29th DENR Anniversary on June 10, 2016 at the DENR Regional Covered Court.
“DENR Anniversary is not only limited to a celebration within the agency. There are lots of people behind our accomplishments. We will honor the efforts of our partners,” DENR-13 Regional Director Nonito M. Tamayo said.
About 349 awardees were recognized including two (2) posthumous awards to individuals who contributed much in the advocacy to strengthen forest protection and conservation.
The awardees include farmers, media practitioners, People’s Organizations, Civil Society Organizations, Philippine Army, Philippine National Police, and some political icons.
“I would like to express my sincere thanks to all of our partners for continuously supporting our programs and projects especially the National Greening Program and the Anti-illegal Logging Campaign. All these projects are successful because of efforts,” Director Tamayo said.
Among the awardees, two personalities were honoured for their noble contributions in environmental protection and conservation. They are Mayor Dario Otaza and Mr. Tarciano Pendon.
Mayor Otaza has been an effective partner in the National Greening Program and the Anti-illegal Logging Campaign of the DENR. He changed several lives in Loreto, Agusan del Sur. While, Mr. Pendon, a Bantay Danao of the Agusan Marsh Wildlife Sanctuary in Agusan del Sur, protected the biodiversity within the lake using the best of his abilities.
“Life is indeed short, but we can make it worthwhile. Life does not end the day we serve our purpose, it begins there. Again, my sincere thanks to everybody who is with us in our advocacy for the environment,” Director Tamayo said.

BUTUAN CITY – Employees from the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office Surigao del Sur won the Search for 2016 Mr. and Ms. Kalikasan during the 29th DENR Anniversary celebration on June 10, 2016 at the DENR Regional Covered Court.
Kaleb Arreza and Maricris Lamela won the title as they shine in almost all the categories during the event. Among their special awards are Best in Sportswear, Best in Kalikasan Attire, and Best in Formal Attire.
The Search for Mr. and Ms. Kalikasan is an annual event during the celebration of the DENR Anniversary. This event showcases the talents of the employees and paves the way to self improvement.
“Today, we are celebrating our 29th anniversary with the theme: "Patuloy na pagsisikap para sa kalikasan: Isang pagdiriwang". As we celebrate today’s event, we renew and strengthen our vows to be protectors of our environment and effective public servants. Let us use this celebration as a motivation to strive harder and be agents of change,” DENR-13 Regional Director Nonito M. Tamayo said.
Director Tamayo, in his remark said “The competition is not just about beauty and fame but rather aims to promote social awareness in the role of each individual in the protection and conservation of the environment”.

BUTUAN CITY, May 30, 2016 - A 3-kilometer march for environment dubbed as “Lakad para sa Kalikasan” will be held in Butuan City on June 1, 2016 to draw public support in preserving the biodiversity in the forest and seas marking the start of the Environment month celebration. This year’s theme of the celebration is “Combat Biodiversity Loss. Beat Climate Change!
DENR 13 Regional Director Nonito M. Tamayo said many participants have confirmed that they are joining the three-kilometer march which will be divided into four groups. Those joining the march will be required to bring placards with environmental messages to create more impact to the people.
“A simple environment message like “reduce, reuse, and recycle” may have a strong impact to change the attitude of the family members who care for clean environment,” Director Tamayo said.
“There are many issues on environment that the people need to know. It is a good thing that they could suggest practical remedy to stop the wanton destruction of our environment,” he said. “It’s a good start to create awareness through the fun-walk for environmental cause” Director Tamayo said.
Four starting points have been identified by the organizers chaired by Sammy Malayao of the DENR Enforcement Division which will start at exactly 5:30 in the morning.
These assembly areas are located in Barangay Baan for the East Sector with participants from the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office under PENRO Pat Olivares; the students from Father Saturnino Urios Universtiy (FSUU), Saint Joseph Institute of Technology, Caraga State University, Butuan Doctors College, AMA Computer Learning Center, and Holy Child; business establishments such as Agusan del Norte Electric Cooperative, Pearl Quality Water Refilling Station, Almont Inland Resort and Convention Center, Prince Hotel, Y Hotel, Grand Palace Hotel and Restaurant, Flying V Gasoline Station, and the Pearl Power Gas Station; various associations such as the Federation of Senior Citizen, Persons with Disabilities, and the Hearing Impaired Association will also be present.
West sector participants will assemble at the defunct Otis Center in Barangay Libertad from the DENR-13 Regional Office to be led by Regional Director Nonito M. Tamayo. The other participants joining in are the different Government agencies including the Department of Justice, National Prosecution Office, Department of Labor and Employment, Department of Agrarian Reform, Department of Social Welfare and Development, Department of Trade and Industry, National Commission for Indigenous People, National Economic and Development Authority, National Irrigation Authority, Philippine Information Agency, Philippine Ports Authority, Police Regional Office-13, Technical Education and Skills Development, Caraga Conference for Peace and Development, Commission on Human Rights, City Government of Butuan City, Department of Budget and Management, Philippine Statistics Authority, Philippine Army, National Bureau of Investigation, Civil Aviation Authority, Office of the Civil Defense, Department of Health, Commission on Population, Department of Education, Commission on Higher Education, Bureau of Treasury, GSIS, SSS, Banko Sentral Ng Pilipinas, PNRC, Department of Public Works and Highways, Department of Foreign Affairs, DSWD and BIR.
South Sector participants will start in Barangay Maon to be led by CENRO Nasipit under CENRO Norman Asugan, and CENRO Tubay under CENRO Vince Estopito; the Wood Processing Plants including the Agusan Plywood Corporation, A and V Veneering, Butuan Esperanza Veneer Corporation, Philippine Softwood Products Inc., United Wood Industries Corporation, Ventura Plywood Philippines Inc., JAKA Equities Corporation, Amparo Mini –Sawmill, Chiba Furniture and Export Component, Orgon Wood Industries, June Box Factory and Lumber Dealer, Bingkilan Wood Craft, Pacific Wood Craft, Pacific Wood Inc., Va Jezreel Woodcraft, New South Star Manufacturing Corp., Unorich Agricultural Products, and Richmond Plywood Corporation; other business establishments such as Balanghai Hotel and Convention Center, Hotel Karaga, Bachelor Express Inc., Butuan City Water District, Wood Industry Cluster, and the Butuan Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
