The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), through the Eastern Mindanao Biodiversity Corridor (EMBC) project, held a back-to-back Training Needs Assessment (TNA) of the two Surigao provinces (Surigao del Sur and Surigao del Norte), and for the concerned DENR Offices in Region XIII last October 4-5, 2022 and October 6-7, 2022, respectively, at Balanghai Hotel and Convention Center in Butuan City.

The TNA is one of the milestone activities of the EMBC project under the Global Environment Facility-United Nations Development Programme-Department of Environment and Natural Resources (GEF-UNDP-DENR) Project on Integrated Approach in Management of Major Biodiversity Corridors in the Philippines (BD Corridor Project).

The activity aimed at identifying the capacity-building needs of essential stakeholders in the corridor to reinforce capacity for biodiversity conservation and to mainstream gender into biodiversity-related programs and activities.

The analysis results will serve as input to the capacity development and gender action plan to be implemented during the next five years of the project.

Participants of the event were the Provincial, City and Municipal local government unit’s (P/C/MLGU’s) Planning Officers, Agriculture Officers, Environment and Natural Resource Officers, Gender and Development (GAD) Focal Persons, and DENR Region XIII personnel, specifically, the Protected Area Superintendents (PASus) of protected areas, GAD Focal Persons, Chiefs of the Enforcement and the Conservation and Development divisions and sections.##
