DENR-13 under the leadership of Regional Executive Director Nonito M. Tamayo, CESO III, spearheads Orientation/Briefing for Field Practicum/On-the-Job Training students of Caraga State University (CSU) on July 27, 2022, at the DENR Regional Covered Court in Brgy. Ambago, Butuan City.

A total of 158 (145 Bachelor of Science in Forestry and 13 BS Environmental Science) students attended the activity. These students will be assigned to the different DENR field offices in Caraga Region including CENROs Bayugan, Bunawan, Cantilan, Nasipit, Tubay, and Talacogon; PENROs Agusan del Norte and Agusan del Sur; the Modernized and Mechanized Forest Nursery (MMFN) in Bislig City; Forest and Wetland Research, Development and Extension Center in Bood Promontory Eco Park; and Protected Area Management Office of Siargao Islands Protected Landscapes and Seascapes.

The event started with the acknowledgment of guests and participants facilitated by DMO V and Regional NGP Coordinator For. Luis P. Gonzaga, followed by the messages of CSU's Director of the Office of the Students Internship Program, Rosalina A. Sagocsoc and DENR Caraga RED Tamayo.

The Resource Speakers during the orientation were OIC, Planning and Management Division Chief Mary Kathleen P. Po, Chief Administrative Officer Evangeline M. Astillo, and Administrative Officer V Johanna A. Aguilar.

Also present during the event were CSU's Forestry Department Chairperson, For. Joel Mercado; OJT Faculty Supervisors For. Liezel Cortejos-Obo, For. Jeshaiah Chen Mopheth Aguilar, For. Marle Angelo Perodes, For. Cornelio Casilac Jr., and For. Victor Corbita.

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Caraga has conducted a Capacity Building on the Determination of Tourism Carrying Capacity for Ecotourism Sites on July 26-28, 2022 at the Grand Palace Hotel, Butuan City.

The 3-day activity is designed to capacitate the 33 technical personnel handling the protected areas, biodiversity and eco-tourism in the regional and field offices on the principles, concepts, and methodologies of tourism carrying capacity determination, including actual assessments and data gathering.

The learning event covered five modules that include the (1) overview of the Philippine Tourism Industry and the Basic Concepts and Principles of Carrying Capacity; (2) Biophysical Characterization which includes Biodiversity Assessment for underwater to cover coral, fish, seagrass/seaweeds and other marine organisms, and terrestrial to cover flora and fauna; (3) Vulnerability and Geo-hazard Assessment; (4) Socio-economic Survey to cover demographics, determination of sample size and how to conduct  the survey or interview; and (5) Computation of Carrying Capacity, specifically, physical, tourism and population carrying capacity.

To put their learning into practice, the participants were exposed to workshops and field exercises in an eco-tourism site located in Barangay Puting Bato, Cabadbaran City.

Resource persons during the capacity-building were Jose Isidro Michael T. Padin, Joselito T. Sumabat, Mr. Reynaldo L. Lanuza, and Ms. Chona M. Tura of Ecosystems Research and Development Bureau-Coastal Resources and Ecotourism Research Development and Extension Center (ERDB-CRERDEC).

DENR-EMB-MGB 13 holds 2022 Sportsfest

 

The DENR Caraga regional and field offices together with the line bureaus โ€“โ€“ the EMB Caraga and MGB Caraga, held the DENR Caraga Sports Festival 2022 and Cheer Dance Competition at the FSUU Gym - Morelos Campus, Butuan City on June 27-28, 2022.

The event aims to exhibit the physical prowess of the employees as they compete in various games to promote camaraderie and sportsmanship.

"We need this sportsfest to at least unwind from our daily routine within the confines of our offices and the strenuous fieldwork to keep ourselves healthy and fit," Regional Executive Director Nonito M. Tamayo said in his message during the opening program.

The eight delegates, the Regional Office, the five PENR Offices from Agusan del Sur (ADS), Agusan del Norte (ADN), Surigao del Norte (SDN), Surigao del Sur (SDS), Province of Dinagat Islands (PDI); Environmental Management Bureau (EMB-13) and Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB-13), showcased their sportsmanship thru basketball, bowling, dart, volleyball, table tennis, online mobile legends: bang-bang, cheer dance and doble-cara competitions.

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in Caraga region through its Regional Executive Director (RED) Nonito M. Tamayo has recognized the top-performing offices within its jurisdiction for CY 2021 during the 2nd Regional Management Conference held at the Pavilion of the Watergate Hotel, Butuan City on June 20, 2022.

Awarded with plaques of recognition were the top-3 PENR Offices (1st - PENRO Surigao del Norte, 2nd - PENRO Agusan del Sur, 3rd - PENRO Agusan del Norte), top-3 CENR Offices (1st - CENRO Talacogon, 2nd - CENRO Bunawan, 3rd - CENRO Loreto), and top-3 divisions of the Regional Office (1st - Legal Division, 2nd - Planning and Management Division, 3rd - Finance Division).

PENRO Jose Flavio V. Concha of Agusan del Sur and CENRO Jerome H. Albia of Bunawan received plaques of recognition for being adjudged as Environmental Award for Governance and Leadership Excellence (EAGLE) winners PENRO and CENRO for CY 2021, respectively. Other finalists for the EAGLE, CENRO Norman A. Asugan of Bayugan and CENRO Vince A. Estopito of Talacogon also received their plaques as a recognition.

Other awardees were PENRO Agusan del Norte and CENRO Nasipit for getting the third place in the R.I.V.E.R.s for Life Award, having Taguibo River as their entry. The Regional Strategic Communication and Initiatives Group (RSCIG) has likewise received a certificate of recognition for its contribution in the documentation of the initiatives done for the enhancement of the river.

Another plaque of recognition was conferred to DENR Caragaโ€™s Kabahagi: An International Day for Biological Diversity (IDBD) 2022 Capture Quest Team Leader Maria Catherine M. Gonzaga for winning second place in the competition. Similarly, her team members, Felipe Armihar Jr., Jane Diaz, Karen Kenneth Bonotan, Sheryl Azarraga, Roxan Lunasin, Ed Vincent Empron, Franklyn Arcadio, Arthur Juanite, Anthony Jan Borga, Arieyl Jamodiong, and Seth Pimentel received certificates of recognition. ##

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Caraga Region through its Regional Strategic Communication and Initiatives Group (RSCIG), in partnership with the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) Caraga, launched the Regional Solid Waste Management Advocacy Campaign on June 15, 2022, at the Robinsons Place Butuan Atrium.

During the program, the campaignโ€™s face, a mascot named โ€œPinas: the Basura Busterโ€ was introduced to the public together with the "Basura Buster" Gaming Application for kids.

"๐๐ข๐ง๐š๐ฌ: ๐“๐ก๐ž ๐๐š๐ฌ๐ฎ๐ซ๐š ๐๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ญ๐ž๐ซ" is the modern-day basurero (garbage man) fully equipped with special upcycled weaponry to keep the environment clean. He received special tactical training to teach the youth about the importance of every individual's role in proper waste management in the country's fight to keep our surroundings, especially our rivers, lakes, beaches, and seas free of garbage.

"๐๐š๐ฌ๐ฎ๐ซ๐š ๐๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ญ๐ž๐ซ" ๐ ๐š๐ฆ๐ข๐ง๐  ๐š๐ฉ๐ฉ๐ฅ๐ข๐œ๐š๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง, on the other hand, serves as a fun online tool to teach the kids how to properly segregate their wastes. It can be downloaded through the google play store.
