In an effort to strengthen the enforcement of environmental laws, particularly, on forest protection within the boundaries of Regions 10, 11, and 13, top DENR officials of the regions, Regional Executive Director (RED) Nonito M. Tamayo of Caraga, RED Bagani Fidel A. Evasco of Davao, and RED Arleigh J. Adorable represented by Asst. Regional Director Aldrich S. Resma of Cagayan de Oro convene in an inter-regional meeting on October 22, 2021 at the DENR Caraga Regional Learning Center, Ambago, Butuan City.

The meeting seeks to discuss some issues concerning the rampant illegal logging activities within the boundaries of the provinces of Agusan del Sur, Davao de Oro, and Bukidnon, with the presence of Environmental Law Enforcement and Protection Service (ELEPS) OIC-Director, retired General Reuel N. Sorilla; the 402nd Brigade, PA, represented by Col. Emil J. Cruz; and the 26th IB, PA, Major Ariel S. Fabria, to conceptualize approaches and strategies to address the problem, considering that these areas are inter-connected,  and the main gateway and sources of illegal forest products.

The Assistant Regional Directors and other officials of DENR 10, 11, and 13 were also present during the meeting and actively participated in the discussions while observing health protocols prescribed by the authorities.

DENR Undersecretary for Enforcement Benito T. De Leon with Environmental Law Enforcement with Protection Service (ELEPS) Director Retired General Reuel N. Sorilla visited DENR Caraga on October 6, 2021.

The purpose of their visit was to gather and validate some information about illegal logging and the enforcement of other environmental laws within the region.

Regional Executive Director Nonito M. Tamayo welcomed the two high-ranking officials as he briefed them on the status of environmental law enforcement within the region. 

DENR 13 Enforcement Division Chief Modesto U. Lagumbay, Jr. has likewise presented a detailed report on the accomplishment of enforcement activities region-wide, including issues affecting the implementation of some targets.

After the briefing, Assistant Regional Director for Technical Services Maritess M. Ocampo facilitated the open forum where the Provincial and Community Environment and Natural Resources Officers (PENROs/CENROs) aired some issues that needed the attention of the visiting officials.

The two officials urged the field officers to do their duties and responsibilities as field implementers of the environmental laws and contribute to achieving the agency's mandate.  They assured them, however, of their full support in their operations.

Patubo of the Province of Dinagat Islands, CENRO Joseph Leo E. Oconer of CENRO Nasipit and CENRO Nelson B. Caranzo of Tubay in Agusan del Norte; CENRO Norman A. Asugan of Bayugan, CENRO Vince A. Estopito of Talacogon, CENRO Racelyn A. Argosino of Loreto, and CENRO Jerome H. Albia of Bunawan in Agusan del Sur; CENRO Ruel E. Efren of CENRO Tubod in Surigao del Norte; and  CENRO Cliff  C. Abrahan of Lianga, CENRO Nathaniel E. Racho of Bislig, and CENRO Marslou D. Bonita of Cantilan in Surigao del Sur.

The participants to the briefing and conference strictly observed the health protocols set by the government at this time of the COVID 19 pandemic.

DENR Caraga headed by Regional Executive Director Nonito M. Tamayo, pays tribute to seven (7) retirees for the month of July to December 2021 through the “Salamat, Mabuhay!" program held at the Regional Learning Center in Brgy. Ambago, Butuan City on October 18, 2021.

The Department continuously recognizes the dedication and commitment of its retiring personnel under the program.

RED Tamayo expressed his gratitude to the retirees for the years of invaluable service they have rendered to the agency and wished them for never-ending days of enjoyment with their families.

The conduct of "Salamat, Mabuhay!" program to acknowledge the government service of retirees is mandated by CSC MC No. 7, series of 1998. The DENR, through then Secretary Horacio Ramos adopted the CSC Memo Circular in 2010.

DENR Caraga Regional Executive Director Nonito M. Tamayo serves as Resource Speaker in the Technical Forum entitled “Effects/Impact of the Pandemic on the Forestry Sector and the Sector’s Response” during the 2021 University of the Philippines College of Forestry and Natural Resources Alumni Homecoming with the theme “Manggugubat: Handa sa Hamon ng Pandemya” on October 6, 2021 via zoom platform.

The activity was also graced by DENR Secretary Roy A. Cimatu, Assistant Secretary Marcial C. Amaro Jr., and Society of Filipino Foresters Inc. (SFFI) National President Tommy Valdez.

Siargao Island Protected Landscape and Seascape (SIPLAS) celebrated its 25th anniversary with the theme “SIPLAS: 25 Years of Conserving Biodiversity, Ensuring Sustainability through Transforming Community and Building Resiliency towards a Lasting Legacy” on October 4-8, 2021.

As part of this year's kick-off activity, a blended face-to-face and virtual SIPLAS Summit was conducted on October 4, 2021 at the New Pastoral Hall in Dapa, Surigao del Norte. The event was facilitated by the Protected Area Management Office - SIPLAS, headed by Protected Area Superintendent (PASu) Celsa G. Espadero.

Participants during the summit were representatives from the LGUs, National Government Agencies, Non-Government Organizations, the academe, and other stakeholders.

The activity served as a venue to present the respective offices and organization's SIPLAS environmental initiatives and milestones throughout the years.

Further, two (2) research studies conducted within the protected area were presented for recommendation during the activity.

As part of the week-long celebration of the silver anniversary of Siargao Island Protected Landscape and Seascape (SIPLAS) with the theme “SIPLAS: 25 Years of Conserving Biodiversity, Ensuring Sustainability through Transforming Community and Building Resiliency towards a Lasting Legacy,” a mangrove tree planting activity was conducted at Brgy. Catabaan, Dapa, Surigao del Norte  on October 5, 2021.

Over 1000 propagules were planted during the activity which was participated by the Philippine National Police, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, Bureau of Fire Protection, Phippine Coast Guard, PASu-SIPLAS personnel and other stakeholders.
